Ages 8 to 16
Acro skills
Handstands, walkovers, round-offs and handsprings, taught one named skill at a time.
Each class works on one level's skills at mat stations, with a turn across the floor and a coach spotting by hand. A skill is spotted until it is steady, and the coach says out loud when the spot is changing. Students of different ages share a level when they share a skill.

The mat room

What a class is like
- 01
Step 1: Warm-up
Wrist, shoulder and core prep and a few handstand holds against the wall.
- 02
Step 2: The level's skill
The coach shows the skill, names each part and puts a student on the mat for the first try, with a spot.
- 03
Step 3: Stations
Students split across mats by skill: a handstand, a bridge kickover, a walkover, a round-off drill.
- 04
Step 4: Across the floor
A turn at a time with the skill the student is working on, and a pass for those who are ready.
- 05
Step 5: Cool-down
A stretch and a note from the coach about what to practice at home on a mat or a lawn.
What to wear and bring
A fitted top with shorts or leggings, so a coach can see the shape of a skill.
On the mats
Bare feet or grip socks work on the mats, and shoes stay in the hall.
Hair and jewelry
Hair is tied back and off the face, and jewelry stays at home.
In the bag
A water bottle with a closing lid. Nothing loose over the top: it rides up in a handstand.
Levels and your coach
- Level
Handstands, Walkovers, and Round-offs and handsprings
Three levels, each named for its main skill. A student moves up when the coach no longer needs to spot it and the skill holds on both sides.
